Note about measurements and wearing:
the fit of women's clothing of the 1920s and before is very hard to define.
The measurements here are approximate, to give an idea of size; nothing is guaranteed
to fit a person or dress form of those dimensions. Vintage clothing collectors have
different wearing rules; we don't think of garments made before 1870 as wearable.
If measurements are not given, the article is
of an age or condition appropriate for a museum
or non-wearing private collection.

Returns will not be accepted and
refunds will not be given
for items damaged by trying on or wearing.

Note about color:
We have tried to accurately portray the colors of items on our equipment.
Your computer monitor is different from ours, it is set lighter or dimmer,
and may show things with more blue or yellow.

IF COLOR or SIZE IS CRITICAL TO YOUR PURCHASE please e-mail us
for more information before you place an order.
We are interested in the survival of the garments, and excess shipping
does not promote garment health.

Robe, England, about 1800. Yellow/black/red cotton print, very large, loose "Turkish" style with a suggestion of a high waistline. Red wooden buttons at neck. Cotton lining intact. A few gray smudges near hem, but no destructive stains or visible damage, overall condition excellent.
SOLD

"The Georgian dress," black figured velvet evening dress, probably 1810-20. Empire waist, black tulle neck frill with silver metallic trim, some discolored to blue. Black-on-black raised design: vertical stripes alternating with star/flower pattern. This dress was in the collection of a woman who bought antique clothing in the former East Germany. She collected some stage costumes and some actual clothing that had been used on the stage. This dress could be one of the latter: it does not resemble later 19th-century fancy dress costumes. Lining: tan cotton with a small blue pattern. Alteration and damage: two rents in skirt, front neckline altered, train possibly cut to triangular shape. Interesting; scarce in the U.S.
SOLD

"Pig trough stockings," ivory machine knitted silk with
simple clocked design,19th c. Family notes connect these
stockings with a bizarre wedding custom.
See my "Quick Topics" page.

Since then, the frill has been removed from the neckline; this is the only change to the dress. It is in three pieces: skirt, bodice and belt. The only soil is light dust on the underside of the train and some smudges left in some places by the metal hooks; all may be removable with expert cleaning. The bodice waistband measures about 24" and the skirt waistband about 26".
